Revenant Saga
Become a Revenant and find the truth beyond revenge in this gothic fantasy RPG with stunning 3D battles!
After being turned into an immortal being known as a 'Revenant' and learning of the existence of a demon within him, Albert sets out on a journey to make the person who did this to him pay with their very life. Boasting a story that blurs the lines between good and evil, and plenty of content to go around, this is one title not to be missed! This includes a variety of unique subquests, in-battle transformation systems, as well as a weapon forging system allowing players to make entirely unique weapons as they battle in turn-based battles with 3D animation!

the difficulty design unfortunately has plenty of hiccups, but when it works, it makes for some of the deepest, most immersive and tense gameplay and atmosphere of all time. definitely one of the most important titles of the 2010s. also, superb sound design.

gameplay is pretty lacking at times, but one of the most weird and imaginative games of all time in terms of characters and setting.

"so guys, we've been doing more or less the same shit for the past 15 years, how can we freshen up this franchise?" - "how about exchanging 50% of our formula with shadow of the colossus, dark souls, and portal?" - "what? that's ridiculous!"
untouchable. game of the 00 decade.

thoughts during first half of the game: why is this parry mechanic so forced and takes so much flow out of the gameplay? why are the pacing and level design so inconsistent? why do the metroid fights feel like a chore? is this franchise actually dead once and for all? ------------------------------- thoughts after samus has completed her arsenal: hey, parrying is actually pretty fun if it's not the only way to effectively kill enemies; oh yes, this is the kind of fluid gameplay that made the exploration in the good metroid games so motivating; holy fuck, these boss battles are driving my pulse up to 200. there might at last be hope for this series after all the shit samus has consistenly been dunked in since the mid-2000s.

unlike much of what has been released with the name 'metroid' on it in the past, this actually shows a lot of the strengths the series is known for, but the level design and pacing are inconsistent and the parry mechanic feels forced and takes a lot of flow out of the gameplay. definitely better than the shit samus has consistently been dunked in since the mid-2000s, but still miles away from the glory of the old days.

the parry mechanic feels forced and takes a lot of flow out of the gameplay, and the level design is really inconsistent. better than the shit samus has been dunked in since the mid-2000s, but still miles away from the glory that metroid once held.
bland ass game
loses a bit of steam towards the end gameplay-wise, but overall a very strong game, and one of the best in the horror genre.
