Revenant Saga
Become a Revenant and find the truth beyond revenge in this gothic fantasy RPG with stunning 3D battles!
After being turned into an immortal being known as a 'Revenant' and learning of the existence of a demon within him, Albert sets out on a journey to make the person who did this to him pay with their very life. However, as he runs into others along the way dealing with their own figurative demons, what is the answer he finds...?
Boasting a story that blurs the lines between good and evil, and plenty of content to go around, this is one title not to be missed! This includes a variety of unique subquests, in-battle transformation systems, as well as a weapon forging system allowing players to make entirely unique weapons as they battle in turn-based battles with 3D animation!

hiccups in level design and fixed camera are almost as annoying as peach going "maaaariooooo" into the camera
if you haven't played this game, why are you even alive
up down up down chu chu chu
weaker than its fellow golden age final fantasy games due to the junction system disincentivising use of magic and making the battles extremely repetitve even by jrpg standards, but still one of the best jrpgs overall thanks to the timeless soundtrack, charming writing and characters, and an absence of the cringeworthy voice acting you find in modern jrpgs. story hopelessly derails itself midway like in every final fantasy game. worth adding to your library.
rare classic trashed by people with colourblindness and a short memory
reading these comments, I almost get the impression that there are some people who actually think kojima has ever written a good story

music is timeless, writing holds up to 2021 standards better than most jrpgs of the last ten years, but you need a 1999 attention span for the battle system.

the best worst best worst worst best ff game ffs
underrated, absolutely stellar game in terms of mechanics, visuals and overall feel
play it and experience a culture
in the rare moments when this game decides to quit it with the quirky above-average-iq dork humour and the endless "I won't directly tell you what this is about but I'll give you 20 hint sequences in a row" and finally gets to the point, it offers an artistically beautiful story and a very strong portrayal of untreated mental illness due to psychological trauma. of all the inspiration it obviously took from undertale, I wish it had also been inspired by its conciseness. still worth checking out if you have the patience to chew through all the filler.

fantastic atmosphere and the best turn-based combat system ever by a large margin. play radiant mode to make it less of a grindfest
masterpiece trashed by people with colourblindness and a bad memory
genius concept, masterful execution, godawful continue system.
very strong aesthetics carrying a deep subtext, but the atmosphere is often compromised by the meh gameplay. I can't be scared or emotionally shaken when I'm annoyed by poorly optimised gameplay mechanics
great aesthetics, meh gameplay compromising the atmosphere as with all games of this type

loved it as a kid, very disappointed when replaying it as an adult. the cute style still holds up, but the gameplay is really linear and repetitive. oh well.
